100 Dark Fantasy Quest Hooks — A Velnaris Almanac of Adventure Seeds
One hundred adventures waiting for a die: heists and escorts, mysteries and monster hunts, faction jobs and hard moral choices.
A spice broker with a gambling debt wants the party to swap the Guild's saffron reserve for chaff before the noon auction. A dead captain's last crate sits sealed on the far pier, and the notary will only release it to an heir the Tidewrackers swear is theirs. A bride's own mother offers a purse to switch the wedding pearls for water-glass, so they shatter on the balcony in front of every noble house.
What You Roll
A d100 almanac of adventure seeds for the gothic-noir city of Velnaris. Each entry is a named hook, not a playable scene: a launch pad. Every seed is built the same way, so you can read one cold:
- Name & type — a titled seed tagged by hook type
- Premise — what is going on in the district before the party arrives
- Hook — the trigger that pulls the party in
- Twist — the reveal that turns the job on its head
- Stake — what is lost if the party fails or walks away
- Reward — one concrete payoff: coin, favor, leverage, item or reputation
- Follow-on — the next beat, a thread rather than a resolution
- Tags — keywords for district, faction and flavor
Also Inside
- A 10-district grid: each block of ten rolls keyed to a quarter of the city, from the Market to the Foreign Quarter
- Hook types from social and heist to monster-hunt, mystery, escort, faction and moral
- A compact one-table d100 lookup and a one-line hooks index
- Recurring factions (the Grey Ledger, the Tidewrackers, the Arena Syndicate, the Council, the Watch) that thread between seeds
- Ten reveal forms behind the twists, capped so no surprise repeats too often
Who It's For
GMs running urban campaigns who need a job tonight. The seeds use named D&D 5e checks and DCs that read across PF2e, OSR or narrative play; rename a district and drop the almanac into any city. GM-facing and spoiler-forward.
Content
Table-safe. Dark-fantasy noir (danger, mystery and moral weight) with no mature content.
